Ascochinga is located 57 km from the Capital City, 734 meters above the sea level; its urban layout is small and there are a few businesses downtown, a service station and the church. The attractions begin when the visitor penetrate into the winding tracks surrounded by woods as dense as old.

Ascochinga invites you to the action. Circuits for trekking in wild landscapes, riding a mountain bike a ride along hard core paths, riding horses and traveling on 4x4 vehicles are some of the options.

There are different circuits organized by Parque Ascochinga Hotel that allow you to discover the rich history and culture of the region and the Camino de la Historia. There, you can also visit Candonga Chapel, Santa Catalina Chapel, (both belonging to the Jesuit period) Ongamira Caves, Sinsacate Relay, Barranca Yaco or the farmhouse of the ranches that once belonged to Presidents Justo and Roca. But if you are looking for adventure, you can reach La Estancita waterfall (by the way El Cuadrado) or Las Tres Cascadas (The Three Waterfalls) where you can taste the local homemade salami and wines.

Circuits:

You can drive along the Camino del Pungo (31 km long) that links Ascochinga with La Cumbre. You should leave early in order to be back before the evening and ride a horse or do trekking. Another option is to follow the course of Ascochinga River along 5 km. The landscape will amaze you when you reach Las Tres Cascadas, waterfalls surrounded by deep pools of crystal clear waters. This trip takes 3 hours if you do trekking, 2 hours riding horse and 20 minutes driving a car.

Upstream the river, from Tres Cascadas, you will reach a region surrounded by a dense vegetation and enclosing stone formations with several natural pools hidden in the river bed. The most famous, El Pozo Azul (8 meters deep) is home of trouts. It takes two hours´ walking to reach the place.

Another circuit that starts early in the morning towards the west and lasts all day long is climbing Piedra Blanca, the highest mountain in the region. It is 1,800 m high and, at the top, you will find a cross and a large white rock that is still being painted by the local people, after the example of a physician who did that in order to watch it from distant places. From Parque Hotel towards the East, across Ascochinga downtown (Route 53) you will reach Cerro de La Cruz, after walking 6 km. It is an ideal morning walk for adults, an attractive circuit for lovers of mountain bike and a must for lovers in the evening. It takes only an hour and a half to reach the place and it is easy.

If you like to ride a horse, you may follow the course of Carapé River (that joins San Miguel River and they form Ascochinga River) towards the West, riding across the mountain ranges of Sierras Chicas. You should do it with your family or in a group.

There, you can also discover the ruins of an old neighborhood of AngloSaxon architecture, called ¨La Aguada¨, an artificial dam suitable for fishing, two polo fields and one 18-holed golf course where you can walk along an avenue bordered with plane and poplar trees. It only takes a 60-minutes walk and you will be able to see liquidambar, a vegetal species 102 years old.

.. Historia (subir)
