Bariloche is an international resort center in northwest Rio Negro Province.This Patagonian region is famous for its beautiful landscapes, full of woods, lakes and crystal-clear rivers. Its uniqueness resides in the perfect combination of a great city that has the appearance of an alpine town, a vast lake in close proximity and many hectares of conifers that make up Nahuel Huapi National Park, the greatest in Argentina.
San Carlos de Bariloche is at the southeast edge of Lake Nahuel Huapi, in the Nahuel Huapi National Park, 764 m over the sea level. It is 1.640 km from the City of Buenos Aires; National Route 237 links both cities. From the South, you can reach Bariloche by National Route 258 and from the East, by Provincial Route 23. Another choice is by a flight, since short haul flights and from neighboring countries such as Chile and Brazil arrive everyday.
It is considered a resort center for young people, but there is room for everybody´s liking and buying power all year round. Bariloche is characterized by its Nordic gastronomy that delights you with chocolate, smoked deer and several salmon dishes.
In winter, visitors can ski and do all the other snow sports. When the temperature is warm, fishing and hiking are possible. Rafting, trekking, mountain bike and rides are another choice. At Cerro López, the only sport that can be done is canopy. Sailing across Lake Nahuel Huapi, you can reach such unique places as the ¨Bosque de Arrayanes¨ (Myrtle Wood) and Isla Victoria (Victoria Island). You can also reach Los Arrayanes National Park from San Carlos de Bariloche.
Without letting down other mountains, we can say that Cerro Catedral is one of the symbols of Bariloche and that it assembles most of the winter sports that begin in June and end in October. Other options are: Cerro Otto and its modern chair lift, a visit to the Swiss Community, Cerro Campanario, Cerro Tronador, Puerto Pañuelo, Puerto Blest, Cascada de los Alerces (Larch Falls) and Circuito Chico.
As regards to state-of-the-art technology, Bariloche is the most important place of the Argentine Republic. Scientific institutions such as INVAP (involved in atomic power, spacecraft and cybernetics), ALTEC (cybernetics), Centro Atómico Bariloche, Bariloche Foundation (interdisciplinary) and Universidad Nacional de Comahue. |

El aspecto de aldea alpina que caracteriza a Bariloche es fruto de la inmigración alemana y austriaca que llegó a la zona en 1885. Su nombre deriva de la tribu que habitaba el lugar, el grupo conocido como Buriloche.
Se destinaron 400 hectáreas dentro del Parque Nacional Huapi para la instalación de el pueblo en 1902. Los primeros contingentes de turistas llegan en 1902 con Aarón de Anchorena. A principios de siglos en, Puerto Moreno se estableció el primer hotel denominado “ Hotel de la Cuchara Sucia” propiedad de Carlos Wiederhold.
Allá por el año 1924, en tren desde Buenos Aires a Neuquén llegaban grupos de turistas, desde allí abordaban un ómnibus para arribar a San Carlos de Bariloche.
Con el paso del tiempo, una década después Bariloche recibía al primer ferrocarril portando un gran auge turístico a este lugar y, transformándola en una ciudad privilegiada por su hermosura paisajista.
