Located 110 kilometers to the northwest of the city of Córdoba by national route 38, it lies on the foot of the Uritorco Hill, the maximum elevation of the Small Mountain ranges (1,979 meters) and constitutes the North access to the Punilla Valley. It has a population of 8.503.
The particular arrangement of the mountain ranges allows a dry climate (it is one of the country´s regions with the greatest number of sunny days a year.
Due to its natural resources, Capilla del Monte is a different option among all the towns in the Punilla Valley. Uritorco Hill has been proposed to be zoned as natural reserve and is ideal for mountaineering.
Other attractions are El Cajón Dam, built on Dolores River, with a dam of 145 hectares where fishing and water sports can be done, Los Alazanes Dam and the road to San Marcos Sierras with a wonderful panoramic view of Cruz del Eje Dam.
In practically all these places you can do trekking and rides.
Capilla del Monte offers, also, a series of resorts with equipment and services to enjoy a day outdoors: Calabalumba, La Toma, Los Mogotes, Águila Blanca and Aguas Azules.

Los terrenos que ocupa hoy Capilla del Monte eran conocidos en la época colonial con el nombre de Merced de Gualumba, hasta que fueron conferidas a Doña Lucía González Jaimes, hija del conquistador Bartolomé Jaimes. El 2 de agosto de 1618, la dueña y su marido Juan Maldonado, venden estas tierras a Cristóbal Fúnes, para intercambiarlas en 1620 con Miguel González Jaimes.
En 1638, la propiedad es vendida a Manuel Rivera, y así continuó pasando de mano en mano a través de la historia, hasta que Antonio de Ceballos adquirió el predio. En ese entonces, se funda la estancia que se pone bajo el amparo de San Antonio, por orden de su dueño.
El año 1884 que son compradas por el Señor Adolfo Döering, siendo éste el primer urbanizador de Capilla del Monte. En el año 1901, este pueblo logra la creación de su municipio el cual, junto con Cosquín son los primeros en ser reconocidos en el ámbito del Valle de Punilla. A partir de allí, la entonces villa adopta el nombre actual de Capilla del Monte.
