It is known as the “ Paradise City” of Entre Ríos and is worshipped for its beauty sin Urquiza´s times, who promoted the arrival of Swiss, French and Piedmont immigrants. Settled on the banks of Uruguay River, it is a city full of history, next to El Palmar National Park and enclosing one of the most important thermal springs in the Province, named Termas de Colón. Every year in February, Colón is venue of National Festival of Handicraft.
From Buenos Aires, you can reach Colón through Zárate-Brazo Largo Bridge, linked with National Route 12. Then, you take National Route 14 towards the north up to Colón. From Uruguay, you can reach this region crossing the General Artigas International Bridge that links Colón with the city of Paysandú in Uruguay.
Colón is a quiet, wooded and full of flowers city. One of the main attractions are its white-sanded beaches on the banks of Uruguay River that make up extensive resorts. There, you can fish from the coast or rent a boat for this purpose. In this extensive river you can do all sort of water sports. You can also visit San Francisco and Hornos Islands or do excursions on 4x4 vehicles through places with dense vegetation.
The thermal spas are in the northern sector of the city, next to the Golf Club. Several swimming pools containing water with sodium, chloride, potassium and phosphate lets you relax by means of a therapeutic immersion with a temperature with no more 36° C.
El Palmar National Park is 50 km from Colón. It was created for the protection of the Syagrus Yatay Palms in 8,500 hectares crossed by streams, covered by a dense vegetation and countless species of birds. In this place you can do venture and outdoors tourism.
Those who prefer rural tourism find all sort of activities in the ranches of Colón. San José Palace is enclosed in a ranch. This building was the house of General Urquiza. He lived there the last twenty years of his life and there he was killed. Decorated with exquisite architectonic style, each of its 38 rooms tells us a different story. It is also famous for having the first potable water system of the country.
Close to the city, we can visit Villa Elisa and Villa San José, each of them with a story of Entre Ríos in every brick and enclosing thermal spas.

El grupo aborigen que habitaba esta región antes de la llegada de los españoles eran los Charrúas. Ocupaban las tierras desde río Grande do Soul hasta el sur de Entre Ríos. Algunos antropólogos los emparentan con los tehuelches. Eran cazadores-recolectores nómadas que no practicaban la agricultura y vivían en tribus de alguna docena de familias. De carácter sumamente belicoso, combatían con boleadoras, flechas y lanzas.
La ciudad de Colón fue fundada por el General Justo José de Urquiza, primer presidente constitucional del país, el 12 de abril de 1863. Esta fue la fundación oficial ya que seis años antes, en 1857, habían llegado 100 familias de colonos suizos y caboyanos y dos años después otras 200 familias piamontesas.
Más allá de su belleza turística, Colón es el hito de la inmigración fomentada por Urquiza y la zona en la cual el General decidió pasar los últimos 20 años de su vida. De hecho, fue asesinado a en el palacio de su estancia ubicado a 60 km de Colón. Los asesinos ingresaron al palacio San José y lo apuñalaron frente a su esposa e hijas. Al mismo tiempo, dos de sus hijos eran muertos en Concordia a causa de luchas políticas internas. Este Palacio fue todo un adelanto para la época ya que poseía el primer sistema de agua corriente del país.
