The city of Concordia is well-known as “National Capital of the Lemon-growing”, due to the belt of citrus farms that surrounds the city. It is located in the northeast of the Province of Entre Ríos and has all the beauty of the coastal towns in the coastline. Thermal spas, flowers, carnival, the spectacular dam of Salto Grande and its zone of influence are characteristic of the the region.
The curative properties of thermal waters of Concordia can be enjoyed in a complex with waters that arise from the 1170 meters deep in the earth, with a temperature of 46º C and a high mineral content. Pools, Scottish showers, saunas and all the options of the thermal tourism.
Other attractiveness to visit is the Botanical Garden, the museums, the beach on the Uruguay river and the costanera. All of them get dressed a different color when in summer arrives the carnival from Concord with a invaluable artistic unfolding. From the costanera it is possible to practice nautical sports and the golden sport fishing of, surubí, tararira, pejerrey, fashion and eel.
Other attractions worth to visit are the Botanic Gardens, the museums, the beach of Uruguay River and the riverside road. All of them show a different color, in summer, when carnival begins. From the riverside road it is possible to do water sports and to fish dorados, surubíes, tarariras, atherines, bogas and eels.
Enclosed in Rivadavia Park we find San Carlos Castle; it is a magnificent two-story castle Louis XV style, built in 1888 with gardens and statues.
The Municipal Regional Museum is enclosed in the Arruabarrena Palace. It is a French style Palace built in 1919 by the Arruabarrena family.
Salto Grande, a huge Hydroelectric Complex built by Argentine and Uruguayan engineers is 21 km from Salto Grande City. In this place, you can enjoy beaches, thermal spas and visit several cities such as Federación, Dayman, Arapey and Chajarí. |

Antes de 1527, esta zona era habitada por los guaraníes,. Sin embargo, poco a poco fueron desplazados por el avance de las tribus charrúas. Ocupaban las tierras desde río Grande do Soul hasta el sur de Entre Ríos. Algunos antropólogos los emparentan con los tehuelches. Eran cazadores-recolectores nómadas que no practicaban la agricultura y vivían en tribus de alguna docena de familias. De carácter sumamente belicoso, combatían con boleadoras, flechas y lanzas.
Hacia 1722, se remontan los vestigios de un asentamiento denominado "Ytu" que en guaraní significa salto. Esto lleva a impulsar un establecimiento permanente en manos de los jesuitas, erigiendo un oratorio que ponen bajo la advocación de San Antonio de Padua. De esta manera, en 1769 nace la primera Concordia que fue apenas un poblado llamado "El Salto", hasta que entre los años 1811 y 1812 el General Artigas inicia el éxodo oriental, y los criollos se vuelven hacia este rincón. La destrucción de los pueblos del Río Uruguay alcanzó el pequeño poblado que prácticamente muere en 1820 con el éxodo de sus propios habitantes.
Ya en 1832 se funda la "Villa de la Concordia" que es elevada al rango "ciudad" por Justo José de Urquiza el 8 de Noviembre de 1851.
El Complejo Hidroeléctrico de Salto Grande se inauguró en 1973, es una represa de 39m de alto que forma un embalse de 78.300 ha y es una de las principales usinas del Sistema Interconectado Nacional.
