This town is 89 Kilometers to the north of the city of Cordoba.
It is called ¨The Punilla´s Balcony¨ with a good reason since it lies on the highest place of the valley (1,300 meters). Los Cocos is well-known not only for its beautiful landscape but also for enclosing a great tourist recreational development.
In 1942 the Italian Juan Barber built, first the hotel and then the labyrinth “El Descanso” (The Rest). In the building of the labyrinth the features of one built by King Minos in Greece were copied. Then, famous work pieces including busts of all the presidents and fountains were built which make up a Roman courtyard.
There is a very important display of national silverwork, a pulpería (local store) and the beekeeping and indigenous museum.
Santa Teresita Chapel (1934) and La Loma Museum in which exhibitions, concerts and conferences take place, are also worth visiting. Close to the museum we find the knitting and painting artisans; others offer local foods and cakes.
Factories producing jam (Reina Mora) and marmalade and alfajores (small cakes) (Los Cocos) offer guided visits.
The chair lift allows you to reach 1,440 m over sea level and at the top, tourists are served a snack. Ticket: $ 7 per person.
To go down you can choose the deslizador which is the only one in Latin America. Los Cocos Park is a special place for children and encloses the Mountain Train and the Monsters´ Mansion. |

Formó parte de la Estancia San Jerónimo, junto con la actual localidad de La Cumbre, siendo su propietario Luciano de Ceballo. A mediados del siglo XVIII, y luego de haber pasado de mano en mano, obtuvo su denominación actual. A fines del siglo XIX el propietario de la estancia Denecio Ceballos construye su vivienda en la actual ubicación de los Cocos, siendo ésta la primera casa de la localidad
Sus calles comenzaron a trazarse a comienzos del siglo XX y su municipio fue creado recién en 1957. Las primeras construcciones fueron principalmente casas de veraneo, pertenecientes en su mayoría a los empleados de los ferrocarriles ingleses.
En 1942 el italiano Juan Barbero construyó, primero una hostería, y luego el laberinto “El Descanso”. En la creación del laberinto se siguieron las características del realizado por el rey Minos en Grecia. Luego, se construyeron piezas de obras famosas con bustos de todos los presidentes y fuentes que integran un patio romano. En las décadas siguientes se destaca un fuerte desarrollo turístico.
