Sixty two km northwest the Capital City and 1.350 m above sea level Valle de Potrerillos is located. It can be reached driving by National Route 7 and Provincial Route 82. This typical hill valley is situated between the Andean foothills and the Cordón de Plata and is crossed by Mendoza and Blanco Rivers. It was a traditional region with old ranches full of summer villas and country houses. Among them, the Gran Hotel Potrerillos stands with its traditional architecture and parkland. Is its divided into three clearly defined regions. In first place: the Civic Center, the Hotel and, close to the route, Mendoza River. In second place, Alto Potrerillos with Los Cóndores, Las Carditas, El Salto, Las Vegas and Valle del Sol. In the third place: San Ignacio and surrounding areas, on the left bank of Mendoza River. There are many streams with very attractive falls and hills with high walls as well as exquisite mountain flora and a lot of birds. In the stretch of Mendoza River Embalse Potrerillos Dam is being constructed. It has a storage capacity of 420 hm3 and an area of 1.500 hectares. There are valuable archaeological deposits of early harvesters and hunters. The whole valley and its surrounding areas are ideal for vacation, adventure, ecologic and cultural tourism. The most popular activities are: rafting, climbing, horse riding, camping, hikking, mountain bike and hang gliding which are done all year round. It is also linked to the circuits towards Cordón del Plata, Tupungato and Vallecitos with its ski runs.
