Ruta de los Siete Lagos (Seven Lakes Route) can be followed from Villa La Angostura or from the other end: San Martín de Los Andes. It is a journey 110 km long situated at the joint of two National Parks: Nahuel Huapi and Lanín. This section of National Route 234 are windy and gravel-covered. It is wise to drive carefully along this route since it gets narrower in certain places. During this trip, you will go across woods populated with coigues and you will discover hidden lakes. From Villa La Angostura, the pavement ends in Lake Espejo, the waters of which are so quiet that reflect the mountains that surround it without distorting them. Further on, to the right, you will see Lake Correntoso and the old and abandoned Ruca Malén Hotel; to the left, the road forks and you can reach Lake Espejo Chico, two kilometers from the main road. Another attraction is Hostería 7 Lagos, belonging to the Quintupuray family. Further on, you will find the junction with Provincial Route 65 that leads to Villa Traful. The wooded region becomes more dense and, with Pichi Traful River to the left, Lake Escondido can be discovered, with its characteristic greenish shade. Pichi Traful River is a paradise for sport fishermen. From here, the road is paved again. The next lakes are 9 kms away : Villarino to the left and Falkner to the right, both linked by a stream. Further on, we find Vullignango Fall, 20 meters high, that belongs to Filuco River. Twenty-one kilometers ahead, within Lanín National Park, we find Lake Machónico, the sixth lake. By a road that forks to the left, we can reach Lake Hermoso situated only 2,5 km from the route. Further on, to the right, we will find the junction with Provincial Route 63 that leads to Confluencia through Paso Córdoba. One of the last attractions is Arroyo Partido (Split Stream), named so due to the fact that its water split into two branches: one (to the right) flows into Lake Lácar (basin of the Pacific Ocean) and the other (to the left) flows into Lake Meliquina (basin of the Atlantic Ocean). San Martín de Los Andes is situated on the bank of Lake Lácar. |

.. Historia (subir) |
