Sierra Grande is a town founded by miners and from the moment they gave up this activity, the town began to devote to mining tourism. Another attraction is the modern Playas Doradas Resort.
This resort is located 28 km eastwards Sierra Grande, linked by Provincial Route 5. Here you can do beach, water and sport activities. Its clear waters are constantly visited by those who are fond of swimming underwater, as in the deep water the visibility is 20 meters.
Mining tourism is promoted as ¨a trip to the center of the Earth¨. With special clothing, visitors walk into one of the greatest mines in South America, with 96 km of tunnels and over 500 m deep. It is the most important mining tourism excursion in the Argentine Republic. |

Sierra Grande fue creada en 1890, para atender a los ganaderos y visitantes de la zona. Y que en 1944 se descubrieron yacimientos de hierro en sus alrededores. El impulso económico llegó recién en 1969, cuando la empresa estatal Hipasam SA se instaló allí y comenzó a realizar la explotación de las minas dando trabajo a miles de habitantes.
En 1991 un cambio en la política económica nacional impuso un cono de silencio al desarrollo de esta zona mediante el cierra de la mina.
Aquellos miles que trabajaban en ella quedaron en la calle. Hoy, esos mineros retornan a la mina y cuentan sus anécdotas mediante un paseo con turistas, internándose en las profundidades de la tierra.
