This city is situated westwards Córdoba (The Capital City) 35 km away and is linked with it by a modern highway. It is 757 km from the City of Buenos Aires. Carlos Paz is one of the most renowned destinations in the Argentine Republic. It is one of the favourite destinations of just graduated students.
Its main attraction is Lake San Roque, a jewel of engineering, where all sort of nautical sports are done. Resorts, streams and woods are the perfect places for trekking, mountain bike, climbing, rappel and parapente.
The Villa is cleft by San Antonio River and this is the cause of its urban structure. When arriving at Carlos Paz, you will always enjoy the sight of the majestic Lake San Roque. Downtown, there is an important hotel offer that includes all categories and the same goes for the restaurants. In the evening, the ¨in¨places are theaters and bars.
The artistic offer has become very important due to the massive tourist influx. Many of the shows only performed in Mar del Plata in summer season years ago, are done here nowadays. |

Carlos Paz antiguamente fue poblado por la tribu denominada Comechingón por sus enemigos. Los españoles los llamaron “la gente barbuda”. Ellos ocupaban todo el Valle.
Cuando arriba el español Juan Mitre convierte el lugar en una encomienda que luego de pasar por distintos miembros se conforma en una estancia denominada Santa Leocadia, ubicada en el antiguo paraje “San Roque”, o “Los Puentes”, que tiempo después se denominará “Pueblo de Carlos Paz “.
Es esta estancia la que llega a manos de Don Rudesindo Manuel Paz hijo del General José María Paz, que libró la Batalla de San Roque entre unitarios y federales en lo que hoy es el lecho del lago. Los Ingenieros Cassafoust y Juan Bialet Massé construyeron el primer paredón por el 1890 con un enorme embudo por el cual se escurren las aguas cuando el nivel del embalse sobrepasa la cota máxima. El actual paredón data de 1955 y fue construido a una distancia de unos 100m en reemplazo del primero.
Será Carlos Nicandro Paz, hijo de Don Rudesindo, quien le dará el perfil turístico una vez que heredó la estancia. En 1913 decide el trazado de un pueblo este es el año considerado para establecer la fundación y el día 16 de julio se festeja por ser el día de Nuestra Señora del Carmen, de la que era devota la familia Paz.
Es Don Carlos quien a través de festividades con gente selecta promociona el paraje. De esta manera seleccionó inversores para que construyeran en la zona y él mismo construye el primer hotel.
En el año 1915, en el mismo día, se inaugura el camino a las Altas Cumbres y la Capilla, a la que colocan bajo la advocación de Nuestra Señora del Carmen. Con Esta conexión vial, el crecimiento de la Villa fue acelerado.
