The cathedral keeps in its interior an ancient history of noticeable buildings. With architecture of neoclassical style initiated in 1883 by the architects Luis Sartori and Carlos Delugi, it is located in the corner of Rivadavia and Pringles St. Its facade, with a Corinthian style and neoclassical pediment, is framed by slender towers that determine the ecclesiastical architecture of the second half of the last century. Its outside is dominated by a triangular frontispiece maintained by six Corinthian columns, which represents the culminate moments of San Luis King of France, patron saint of the Province. It is imposing and has a high dome on the drum and its interior is vault over a plan in Latin American cross shape. The ceiling of the main nave this decorated with delicate frescos and reproductions of the work of Mateo Cerezo. The image of Saint Luis King of France and the Immaculate Conception stand out in the carved wood and golden altar. The pulpit and the stoups of green onyx, highlight the surprising interior decoration made in the decade of 1940.
The property where the cathedral is located has been declared National historic place by the Executive Branch, because there was located the house of Mr. Tomás Luis Osorio, which from 1814 until 1820 was inhabited by the governing lieutenant Mr. Vicente Dupuy. In that house on August 24, 1816, the inhabitants of San Luis declared the independence. On February 8, 1819, the uprising of realistic prisoners was suffocated and it also harbored in several opportunities to General Mr. José de San Martin: in September of 1814, in transit toward Mendoza. Besides, in the interior of the cathedral are buried the remainders of Colonel Juan Pascual Pringles, in merit to his noticeable personality and military actions to the service of the Country.
