The construction of the Cathedral of Jujuy began in the middle of 16th century and involves a history of permanent reconstructions because of different reasons. It is believed that between 1761 and 1765 was fit out.
Its main attraction is a pulpit built during the Jesuits missions. Embossed carved on wood, it represents the biblical family tree up to Jesus, the evangelists pictures, the stair of Jacobo and other expressions of the catholic liturgy, etc. Its style can be considered between baroque and plateresque.
There was blessed the Flag of Manuel Belgrano before the exodus from Jujuy and it is also venerated the image of Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Paypaya y Rio Blanco, declared by general Belgrano Patroness Captain of the North Armies.
The image of the articulated Christ Reclining, attributed the Spanish sculptor Martínez Montañes, is one of the most beautiful works among the ones that exist in the country. Also The Custody worked in silver, emerald and gold outstands for its exquisite details, the same as the confessionals of the epoch, neatly conserved. There is also a notable collection of pictures of the school of Cuzco.
