Several museums tell us about the distant and nearby past of San Luis. One of them it is "Dora Ochoa de Masramón", which is located in Colon street #508 and was created in 1955. It is a multidisciplinary museum that presents diverse facets of the past of San Luis, its fauna, regional crafts, plastic arts, paleontology, anthropology; and it also counts on works of national artists as Quinquela Martin and Raúl Soldi. It is divided into 3 sections: Fine Arts, History and Archaeological of the Aboriginal past of San Luis and America. It also exhibits belongings of former governors, like silverware, porcelain of epoch and old suits, remainders fossils such us dragonflies and the gigantic spider unique in the world, as well as fauna and flora fossils remainders found in the site of Bajo de Véliz.
Two large museums of natural history, one private and another public, tell us about San Luis. One it is the Private Museum of Natural Sciences and Ornithological Investigations Guillermo Hudson, located in España Avenue #1485. This museum specializes itself in bird life of San Luis and exposes five hundred indigenous species of vertebrates, next to numerous specimen of vertebrates and invertebrates of the center of Argentina. It also offers the possibility of carrying out a tour for the sight of birds in their habitat.
Belonging to the National University of San Luis we can visit Museum of Natural History located within the University Park in the corner of Italia and Ejercito de los Andes Streets. In its exhibition called “San Luis Antes del Presente" -San Luis Before the Present- it offers an introduction to the main chapters of the geological history of San Luis since 600 million years ago. Among numerous pieces there are two replicas of important fossils found in San Luis that stand out: a gigantic spider (the unique one in the world) and a flying reptile, besides other fossils and rocks that characterize the province.
