This Park is located in the center-western of Salta Province, an enormous dry area of 65,520 hectares extended between the departments of Cachi and San Carlos, 100 kilometers from the provincial capital. There predominated the bushy formation of pre highland, besides typical communities of the mount and, in the summits, of the highland and the high Andes.
In National Park Los Cardones are important paleontology remainders that indicate which extinct animals inhabited the region. Such is the case of the tracks of dinosaurs that has an antiquity of around seventy million years.
The majesty of “Cuesta del Obispo” -Slope of the Bishop- contrasts with the beauty of the Encantado Valley, a place where the lakes formed in times of rain are frozen in winter and the ground covered with multicolored flowers stands out the rocky formations.
