Payunia is a unique nature reserve; a strange desert territory of black coloring constituted in Provincial Reserve. It is an extensive territory covered by a mantle of black lava which causes the sensation of being visiting an unknown planet or a dark lunar landscape.
Inside the Circuit, the main attractions are: las Bombas Hill -the Bombs- (drops of petrified lava), Los Morados -The Purple-, Santa Maria Volcano, Pampas Negras –Black Pampas-. It can be visited all the year round and you can do “photographic safaris” of its rich indigenous fauna: sight of guanacos and lesser rhea in herds, etc.
Lake Llancanelo is located 75 kilometers from Malargüe city. It can be reached by Route #40 towards the south, then turning left on Route #186. Lake Llancanelo is a nature preserve that was declared RAMSAR place by the international environmentalist community due to its high ecological value. It is one of the wetlands that lodges greater quantity of birds of South America, for example there are flamencos that nest in the lake. It is an ideal place to carry out photographic safaris or sight of birds. It can be visited all the year round.
