The season for the sight of whales in the coasts of Chubut Province extends from May until December, typically, with the better possibilities of sight during September and October. The rituals of reproduction call the baleen whale to mate in these depths. Year after year, the whales return and play in the sea, carrying out besides rituals of mating that fascinate those who observe them.
The sight is carried out embarking from Port Piramides and there are six companies authorized by the Province to do it. They take care of all the necessary details so that this activity generates not environmental impact and does not alter the behavior of whales.
The tour begins flanking the coast in different directions, in order then to be directed one or two miles out at sea, to the encounter of the whales. The first stop is done generally in The Lobería that is located perpendicular to Port Piramides and counts on 2000 specimens. The navigation along the coast permits also to observe several colonies of cormorants, that build their nests against the cliff and there they raise their novices, the same as other species of the coastal bird life. Then the ship moves away from the coast to observe the whales nearer.
The sight also is carried out from the beach Doradillo near Port Madryn. The physiognomy of its coasts makes the sight more attractive and successful, in a way that these enormous whales can be contemplated only a few meters away from the beach.
It is also possible to carry out the sight of whales from the resort Las Grutas and in the Golden Beaches of Sierra Grande although to greater distance.
