It is an unusual geographical phenomenon located in the northeast of Chubut and it almost constitutes an island. The connection with the continent is done through the thin Isthmus Carlos Ameghino, a zone where is observed the sea towards the north and towards the south.
In the isthmus is located the entrance to the Integral Reserve Peninsula of Valdez. There is located the fauna flora and history Interpretation Centre of the place. A team of game-wardens will inform you about the attractions you will find continuing your tour.
In the peninsula are four Protected Areas disseminated on the coast: La Isla de los Pajaros, Punta Piramide, Caleta Valdez and Punta Norte. Besides, you will find services and fuel in Port Piramides, where the excursions for the sight of whales leave.
Besides the baleen whale, in the peninsula you will find colonies of seals, Lion Sea and a lot of birds. The poultry colony is found in the place called “Isla de los Pajaros” -Island of the Birds-, immortalized by Antoine of Saint-Exupéry in his book "The Little Prince".
