Due to the fact that this soil presents exceptional characteristics for the development of grape and wine-growing, it was taken advantage of it by laborious hands that made of San Rafael an oasis and positioned it in the national and international wine market of undisputed excellence. Today, those wineries of yesteryear have adapted its installations to receive tourists.
San Rafael is one of the few regions of the country that has the pride of possessing what the experts call CDO. (Controlled Designation of Origin). Thus the producers cultivate and harvest the grape under guidelines that optimize its quality and assure a reliable control of the origin of its production.
Understanding that knowing people, their customs and experiences is a pleasant way of strolling, a group of wineries of San Rafael has formed what is called “Camino del Vino” or “Wine Path” of San Rafael. “Camino del Vino” in San Rafael approaches us to the winegrowing tradition, traveling through rural areas, scented vineyards and visiting prestigious wineries, in which it is possible to taste exquisite and recognized varietal wines such as Malbec, Syrah and Bonarda.
There are 3 circuits differentiated by its direction. One of them visits all the wineries along Hipólito Irigoyen Avenue and its continuation on the Route in the district Las Paredes. The other circuit goes along Cubillos street with direction to Valle Grande. And the third circuit that goes towards the south east of the department and begins with a winery in the city and arrives to the district of Villa Atuel.
None winery is better than another. Each one of them has a touch that makes it special. Some of them have more history, others are very modern, some others present a profile of boutique and/or craft winery, and there are some with international projection or presenting a tourist complex including restaurant, cabins, and golf courses.
Families, contingent of students, contingent of retired people, foreign; all of them are welcome to the wineries of San Rafael, which offer the visitors the secret of their sources.
